I'm sick of my curly hair. Has anyone had a relaxer done at a salon? Did it damage your hair?

I'm a professional stylist and what the relaxer does is breaks down the cuticle layers of the hair and restructures it, making the curl less or non-existant depending on the length of time the product is on the hair and the strength of the product. I used to have them done FAITHFULLY and now I wouldn't touch the stuff with a ten foot pole. I refuse to do the service because it strips your hair down making it weaker and thinner, thus less healthy. I would suggest either flat-ironing or pressing your hair (with a pressing comb) BUT do these things in moderation, for if too much heat is applied to the hair (even in blowdrying), it can damage and break it off as well. ohhhhhhh yeah... but im a white girl who did it and it seems like it goes a lot better with black girls... anyway its really weird after it grows out and you have a straight line where your hair goes from curly to straight... and leaving it in too long can make you bald

yes it is, be sure to condition it and try not to use other means of drying it out such as over using a hair dryer or straightening iron.

Yes it can damage the hair. I used to do but then decided I liked my curls. If you do it make sure you use a lot of conditioner to keep the hair as healthy as you can. WHen I did the straighening, I went in once a week for a deep conditioning treatment.

This is the 1st time in 18 years that I have not had a relaxer and I would not recomend anyone to get a relaxer. It strips your hair and eventually your hair will break off.
