I have curly hair and want straight. How bad will chemically straightening at a salon damage my hair

I don't mind using a flat iron it just takes to long and I don't really have the patients for it. How much is it at a salon to straighten it?

chemical straightening is much better for your hair than it used to be...although I have never done it. What stopped me was not the damage, but rather what it would look like when curly hair starts growing in under the straight hair.....not so good.

I've had straight hair all my life and would die to have curly hair. Don't do it! I'm sure you look beautiful, just the way you are!

The few cases I've seen done did not turn out the way the owner's expected. Instead of straight and silky it turned out straight, frizzy and dull.

As with all hair treatments (coloring, styling and yes even flat irons) there will be some damage done to your hair, but if you are working with a trained professional they can help keep it under control. The cost depends on your stylist, or their studio and how much they charge, Be sure to do research and find the best person you feel most comfortable with doing the job. Also, depending on how curly your hair is, be prepared to sit around for up to 8 hours waiting for the process to take effect.

If your hair's already damaged then I wouldn't do it because it's going to make it even worse and it won't look healthy and what about regrowth? You can get shampoos from salons that relax your hair slightly and don't damage it, or why not just keep it curly? I used to be like you and had to straighten it all the time but now I'm paying the price because even though I've stopped it's really unhealthy and dry!

a bunch it depends on where you go

however i have a friend who did that %26lt;her and i BOTH have naturally curly hair%26gt; and she regretted it

it made her hair terribly dry and frizzy and even now years later it still doesn't curl right

i wouldn't do it

i have learned to LOVE my hair after years of hating it

but it makes a difference when you have the right hair products

DONT DO IT!! I had a bad perm about 2 years ago and got talked into chemically straightening it back. Horrible decision on my part without knowing all of my options. My hair was totally damaged and frizzed out afterwards. After letting it all grow out and getting regular haircuts my hair is starting to get back to normal.

The cost can run around $100 depending where you go. I went to Regis and supposively had a "master stylist" do it. What a joke!

Trust me, just keep using a flat iron. You may not have the patience for it now but when you can't do anything with it because it is so stripped and dry you will regret it. Plus, it smells horrible!!!

Depends on the condition of your hair and the texture of your hair. If your hair is strong and thick you won't have as much damage. Another big thing is the skill of your hairdresser. If he/she isn't careful it can be over processed. Check with your hairdresser for the cost. It varies for salons and your sylists experience. It depends on the length of your hair as well.

I recently got my hair thermally reconditioned (chemically straightened) and I did it because I hated having to wake up early to straighten it. The salon I went to called it Japanese hair straightening. When it first came out in early 2000 it was super expensive, but now people opt for natural hair, so it's much more affordable. The place I went to charged $250, but I think it depends on where you live and the salon you go to, but be VERY choosy where you do go. If they don't do a strand test for during a FREE consultation and don't ask about previous chemical treatments (perms, coloring, etc.) don't use them. My hair is actually EXTREMELY shiny, soft, and STRAIGHT now, I love it. I only have to blow dry my hair after my shower and put a little Biosilk in it and it looks like I spent hours with my straightener. I highly recommend it, but make sure you do your research on a good place. Good luck!

It depends on the condition and type of hair that you have. There are many different kinds or relaxers. Your stylist will choose the best one for you. Your hair should be fine. Just follow what your stylist tells you. Use deep conditioners (professional).
