My daughters lice won't seem to go away. I thought of another way to rid them besides the usual but am unsure if it will work. Will using an extremely hot straightening iron from the scalp (not close enough to burn) to the end of the hair kill the nits so they cannot hatch? I have found that using something on the hair such as mayo overnight does kill the live lice it is just the nits that keep causing me and my daughter pain and frustration. Thanks!!
If I use a straightening iron on my daughters hair will it help kill the nits? Is the heat enough to do this?
No, because the flat iron will not be close enough to the scalp where the nits are. Besides, you really don't want to increase your chances of buring your child. Your best bet would be to have her wash her hair and condition it really good. With hair still wet, use a nit comb to comb out all the nits. You'll want to wear gloves while doing this and use a metal comb, not a plastic one. It will take several hours to go through the hair entirely, especially if her hair is long. Wash all bedding and stuffed animals in hot water and dry on high heat. Vacuum as well. Lice can be extremely tough to get rid of, but if you make sure that all the nits are pulled out of the hair, then your problem will be gone.

Use RID, if you follow the directions it will work. Make sure you wash all your child's clothing, hats/headgear, bedsheets, ect.

no, it will only damage her hair.if u really want to rid her lice, then make a paste of bitter almonds and apply to her scalp. The shampoo is probably working just fine - but the kids are being re-infested by coming into contact with other items (like pillows, bedding, clothes, towels, toys, chairs, couches, carpets, carseats, etc.) Jackets and coats are notorious because it's an article of clothing that tends to not be laundered that often.
Once lice are found you have to clean EVERYTHING in the house, not just the kids' hair! It's best to do it once a week for 2-3 consecutive weeks, that way you get anything you've missed.
If it's a washable item, wash it with hot water and dry in the dryer on high for at least 20 minutes. If it's something you can't wash, then you need to seal it up in a plastic bag (airtight!) and leave it for at least 2 weeks to let all the bugs die. (I've heard that dry-cleaning also works - but haven't tried it.)
You also need to wash the combs and brushes (and any other hair things - hair ties, scrunchies, whatever). You can wash them with hot soapy water, or soak them in alcohol.
Don't forget to vacuum the carpets! Kids lay on floors all the time!
It's not an easy process - but if you don't take care of everything, you'll find they just keep coming back.
Good Luck : )
