Horrible to put strong straightening chemicals or hot irons on such a young child. Try other options like pony tails, braiding, etc. Don't risk burning your child's scalp with adult strength chemicals or hot irons.It can be very traumatic - just let them enjoy their childhood! A kid doesn't have to have their hair styled like an adult.

i wouldnt do that. why would you want your child to be noticing there apperence, and trying to perfect what you think is wrong at such a young age. their hair is still growing and falling out, some children have wavy hair and then poof it becomes straight. i wouldnt worry about it i wold just let them play and have fun and not worry about their hair. :)

yeah probably but the do have straighteners that are not hot irons like i know theres one in looks like two brush you make it hot with the blow dryer and then drag it through her hair

my little girl has curly hair and I have straightend it a couple of times, cause mommy was doing it she wanted it. If you use the lowest setting it souldn't hurt, try using leave in conditioner in her hair berfore she goes to bed to make sure that you are not damaging it.

Excessive heat is damaging for the hair. It causes split ends, dryness, and breakage. The child is only 4 years old, and she should not be concerned with changing the natural texture of her hair. You are not only damaging her hair, you are sending her a message that her natural hair needs "correcting". She is not even aware of beauty asthetics at that age, and you should let her remain blissfully unaware of these silly standards of beauty for as long as possible.

Instead I would reccommend you use products for her hair type. Curl.Life by Matrix, or the Curls line by Ouidad. They will define her waves and also help her to accept her own God given texture.

I dont think it is bad. When I was little my mom curled my hair almost everyday...many different ways...hot rollers, curling irons, perms, etc. I have naturally VERY straigh hair, and my mom hairsprayed it up to keep it curly all day. Now, I have great hair, and I still use heat products almost everyday. My hairdresser tells me that i have some of the best hair she has ever seen and can't believe I straighten it everyday. And I only get my hair cut three or four times a year.

I'm not saying it is GOOD for hair, but I am saying that alot of new products are designed to put less stress on hair. Remember in the 80's when hairspray was supposed to make hair fall out?? No one believes that anymore because enough studies have been done to prove otherwise.

Likewise, not enough studies could have been done by now to say one way or another the long term effects on hair by straighteners.

Also, to whoever said that straightners are brain damaging...does that mean your stove is braindamaging as well? Or a clothes iron? No, they aren't. A hair straightener doesn't contain toxic radiation or microwaves that are sent pulsing from the small machine. It simply heats up and cools down.

Your little girl should be fine. I bet she's cute both ways.

Yes because it is generally more delicate than other hair. It's even bad to straighten hair as an adult as it dries the hair out and encourages spilt ends. The earlier and more frequently you straighten hair the wose condition it will be in. If you're desperate to straighten the child's hair, do it less often, condition it well and use protective products.
